Where do British people go on their holidays abroad?



Europe is the most popular destination for UK residents, accounting for 80 per cent of visits abroad. Spain has been the most popular country to visit since 1994, with 13.8 million visits in 2005. France was second in popularity, with 11.1 million visits.
The number of visits abroad made by UK residents has more than tripled since 1985, to a record 66.4 million visits in 2005.

TOP Destinations for British tourists 2005

The five countries to which UK residents made the most visits in 2005 remained unchanged from 2004. These were Spain (13.8 million visits in 2005), France (11.1 million visits), USA (4.2 million visits), Irish Republic (4.2 million visits) and Italy (3.4 million visits). The next five countries also remained unchanged from 2004; Greece, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium.

Popular holiday trends
  • Most holidays are taken in July and August

  • Seaside package holidays are the most popular type of holiday.
  • Most working people have 4 weeks holiday per year and take 2 weeks off in the Summer

IRIS BETTINGER, REUTER’S CHEF, CHOSEN BEST FEMALE CHEFIris Bettinger, Hotel & Restaurant Reuter’s chef, was chosen as Germany’s best female chef of the year by the well-known Italian mineral water brand S.Pellegrino. Bettinger received this much sought after reward in Frankfurt because of her outstanding cuisine in QL Hotel Reuter in Rheda- Wiedenbrück. She combines French classic cuisine with regional specialities. Bettinger, chef in Hotel Reuter since 2004, was awarded a Michelin Star in 2012. She voiced the hope that female chefs and other promising young chefs will be inspired by her success.

FORT RESORT BEEMSTER WINS AWARD NATIONAL WELLNESS COMPETITION On February 10, 2014, the Dutch National Wellness Awards were presented in Hooge Vuursche Castle, Baarn, The Netherlands. Voters were asked to rate atmosphere, hospitality, hygiene and price/quality ratio. Fort Resort Beemster, which only opened its doors in 2012, was voted nr. 1 with the most votes in the province of North Holland. Country wide, Fort Resort Beemster attained a respectable 3rd place.

Fort Resort Beemster is part of the Unesco World Heritage listed, Amsterdam defence ring. Once upon a time soldiers slept in this 100 year old fort. Now it has been transformed into a luxurious hotel and restaurant with superb wellness facilities.
